Angela and Hunter dreamed of a beautiful beach wedding at an all-inclusive resort; something fun, relaxing, and welcoming for guests of all ages. When their original resort unexpectedly booked a corporate event over their date, we quickly pivoted and landed on an even better fit: the stunning Dreams Playa Mujeres.

Why did you decide to have a destination wedding?
We chose a destination wedding for several reasons. It provided a unique experience for our guests; the majority of our guests have never been out of the country or experienced an all-inclusive resort. It was a memorable setting that neither we or our guests will forget and will be a long-lasting memory that we will continue to look back on. Wedding planning can be a stressful time, but with the help of Kate and our wedding coordinator at Dreams, it removed a lot of stress from our minds and put us at ease.
What were some of your biggest fears about having a destination wedding?
Our biggest fear was not knowing what our Ceremony/Reception would look like. We had an idea going into it with inspiration photos we used, but had no idea what the final product would be. We were also nervous about the communication process with the wedding coordinator at the resort, but ended up having a great experience. When something wasn’t getting answered, Kate would be on top of it, and we would get an answer soon after. Lastly, we were nervous about our “guest experience” for our Dreams Playa Mujeres wedding. Guests were nervous about transportation, the quality of food, and the service. Most did not know what to expect when going there. Our guests had the BEST experience! The resort was so welcoming and accommodated everyone’s needs.
Describe what it was like working with the wedding coordinator at the resort.
Our wedding coordinator, Erika, was amazing. We had the pleasure of working with her and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. We started communicating with Erika 3 months out from the wedding. We received timely responses and wonderful suggestions. She made sure everything was orderly and perfect for our special day. Erika stayed with us for the majority of the wedding day/evening and was checking on us frequently throughout, making sure we didn’t need anything. Erika gave us the best suggestions at the resort when we were weary, especially about the weather.
Describe the booking process for your guests.
The booking process was super easy for our guests. Kate made a website for all our guests, which detailed everything that was included for our Dreams Playa Mujeres wedding, the different rooms/views you could get. It made it so much easier for guests to choose what they wanted. When our guests had questions about anything they would get a quick response from Kate. Our guests were very happy and thankful that we had Kate to help us plan travel for our group.
Were your guests wowed by the resort? What was their reaction upon arrival?
A lot of our guests have never been to an all-inclusive resort and were in love with how they were greeted, especially being called “family”. They were pleased with the whole resort (multiple pool options such as the party pool, hot tubs, relaxing pool, and swim-up bar pools). The food was excellent, fresh, and everyone loved the variety; we had not one complaint. (Also, how each restaurant was designed to have a fancy look.) Staff were always checking up on us, not only walking through the resort but calling their rooms every day to see if anything needed to be stocked, refilled, and how their stay was going. The activity staff went above and beyond doing hands-on activities with us. They played multiple games of volleyball, water polo, trivia, etc. Everyone was amazed at the night shows and how everything was put together for them. A lot of our guests are already planning another trip to go back! There is so much to do at this resort, and most wish they had stayed longer. They were amazed that each pool/beach wasn’t crowded at all, how frequently servers would bring drinks to the poolside for you, remembering their drink orders, and having a special bond with them. They were also mind blown by how you could go to the “Secrets” side on a golf cart. They were stunned by the view, size, bluetooth speaker built into the bathroom, and also having a tub on the deck to relax in their room. The ocean was crystal blue, although the waves were high, everyone still got in and had a blast. The sand was bright white, and so soft your feet just sink into, and it wasn’t scorching hot. The coolest thing our guests thought was having dolphins on site at the resort, and the staff even let them watch “feeding times”.
Describe the meeting you had with the onsite wedding team when you arrived at the resort.
When we got there, we had a scheduled meeting with Erika, and she went over everything on our spreadsheet that we selected and explained how our wedding day would go. Not only did she communicate the first day we got there, but she checked in on us several times up until our wedding day. She gave us ideas on some things we were unsure of and kept making sure we were all on the same page. She gave us a tour of where our ceremony/reception would be, the backups we chose in case of weather, and also showed us another wedding’s setup to give us ideas of how ours would look.

What was the best part of having a destination wedding?
The best part about having a destination wedding was that it not only created a lifetime memory for us but for our guests, too. Having a vacation for guests, on top of our special day. Having a smaller crowd, we really got to spend a lot of quality time with each individual. It felt amazing having a wedding and not having to worry about planning a honeymoon after, we did it all in one! Being able to have the ceremony on the beach in nice weather and not having to worry. It was a lot less stressful on us not having to set everything up ourselves, worrying about flowers, and decor.
Would you recommend Kate’s Travel to other couples who are considering a destination wedding?
We would recommend and use Kate over and over again if we could. It was by far the best choice we have made, and we have no regrets. She always checked in on us and communicated with the resort frequently. Kate sent everyone travel itineraries weeks in advance to ensure everyone was prepared for travel, and ensured each guest could safely locate the correct transportation. Kate made everything so much easier and less stressful.
